I am new to all this and have read about heterozygous, homozygous, etc. but don’t know what my result from Sterling’s app means. It shows my C677T result as (+/+), highlighted in red. But here is my confusion. It shows the risk allele as A. I am AA. I thought the risk allele would be T (thymine in place of the usual cytosine). I don’t know if I am homozygous for C677T or in the clear. Can anyone shed some light on this for me, please? Thanks.

    Hi mmburke1956,

The risk allele for MTHFR C677T is A.

Homozygous is AA (+/+) red, meaning there are two copies of the mutation.

Heterozygous is AG (+/-) yellow meaning one copy of the mutation.

No mutation is GG (-/-) green.

Please read the “Strandedness” information in this article from 23andMe which will also provide answers to your enquiry.
